CAIR Welcomes Arrest in Kentucky ‘White Power’ Assault Targeting Afghan Refugee

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of two suspects in an assault targeting an Afghan refugee in Kentucky that occurred back in 2022.

Two teens have been arrested for allegedly pepper-spraying that Afghan refugee and reportedly shouting “white power” during the attack. The teens had allegedly been influenced by an extremist group online. They will serve thirty days after being convicted on a misdemeanor wanton endangerment charge.

“We welcome the arrest of the suspects in this disturbing attack allegedly targeting an individual seeking safety in our nation,” said CAIR National Communications Manager Ibrahim Hooper. “We thank law enforcement authorities for their action in this case. Such hate-fueled violence cannot be tolerated in our society.”

CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
