(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/6/2023) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a Maryland woman who allegedly conspired with a Florida neo-Nazi leader to carry out an attack on several electrical substations in the Baltimore area.
Sarah Beth Clendaniel, of Baltimore County, reportedly conspired with that neo-Nazi leader to disable the power grid by shooting out substations in “sniper attacks.” Officials shared a photo of a woman identified as Clendaniel wearing a Nazi swastika.

“We welcome the arrest of this alleged domestic terrorist and hope it sends the message to potentially-violent bigots that their plans will not succeed, and they will be caught,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “Americans across the political spectrum must repudiate the growing racist and white supremacist ideologies in our nation.”
She said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
