(WASHINGTON D.C., 5/7/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed disciplinary action by a Tennessee school against students shown in an online video that included one student dressed in a white KKK-style hood and someone shouting a racial slur.
In a statement, the school said in part: “Immediately upon being made aware of an extremely inappropriate and deeply disappointing video yesterday afternoon that violates everything we value, the administration of Grace Christian Academy has taken swift action to meet with all students involved. Severe disciplinary action has been issued…”
“We welcome the swift disciplinary action taken by the school in this case and hope that action will include teaching all students about the negative impact of systemic anti-Black racism and white supremacy,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Hooped noted that yesterday, CAIR called on Iowa’s Waukee School District to offer an anti-racist curriculum to students following a racist incident that occurred at a local school.
He said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry.
