(WASHINGTON D.C., 3/15/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the failure of the West Virginia legislature to pass a bill targeting anti-racism teaching.
CAIR said the falsely-labeled “Anti-Racism Act,” based on the manufactured controversy over critical race theory, missed the Saturday deadline for passage. The Washington, D.C., based civil rights group last month called on the legislature to drop that and other bills targeting anti-racism teaching.

“We welcome the failure of this counterproductive and divisive bill and hope lawmakers will now have time to consider new legislation that will actually address systemic racism,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Hooper added that CAIR recently welcomed the failure of similar bills in the Wyoming legislature.

He noted that CAIR has challenged similar bills nationwide that would restrict anti-racism teaching.
