(WASHINGTON D.C., 6/15/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report describing Israel’s siege of the Gaza Strip as part of its “crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution.”
The report, released on the fifteenth anniversary of the beginning of Israel’s siege in 2007, said the siege “devastated the economy in Gaza, contributed to fragmentation of the Palestinian people, and forms part of Israeli authorities’ crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution against millions of Palestinians.”

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“The Israeli apartheid government’s ongoing, brutal siege of the Gaza Strip is a crime against humanity, and we welcome this report’s description of it as such. All nations, including our own, must take action against the Israeli government’s human rights abuses.”
He noted that CAIR has repeatedly condemned ongoing Israeli apartheid and human rights abuses against the Palestinian people.
