(WASHINGTON, D.C., 4/28/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the planned release of a manifesto reportedly written by the alleged shooter at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tenn.
A spokesperson for the Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson said: “The investigation has advanced to the point that writings from the Covenant shooter are now being reviewed for public release and that process is underway and will take a little time.” Police officials did not give a date for when the manifesto would be released.
In a tweet, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee wrote: “We’ve been in touch with the Nashville Police Department, & today, Chief Drake assured me that documents & information regarding the shooter will be released to the public very soon.”
“We welcome the planned release of the alleged shooter’s manifesto and hope it will shed some light on the motive behind this heinous attack on a Christian private school,” said CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “The families of the victims and the broader public have a right to know why this school came under attack, including whether the incident was motivated by bias.”
He noted that CAIR previously offered condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the mass shooting and called on authorities to investigate the possibility of a bias motive in the attack.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
