The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the reported reduction of US troops in Syria to fewer than 1,000 and called on the Trump administration to withdraw completely.
The Pentagon has withdrawn about 600 troops from Syria, leaving less than 1,000 in the country. The withdrawal was reportedly done in spite of Israeli attempts to get US troops to stay.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We welcome the ongoing reduction of U.S. forces in northeast Syria, where American troops occupying Syrian territory without congressional authorization have been magnets and sitting duck for attacks.
“We call on President Trump to fully withdraw all U.S. troops from Syria as soon as possible, demand the withdrawal of all Israeli occupation forces from Syria, and lift all Assad-era sanctions so that the liberated Syrian people can rebuild their nation free from foreign occupation.”
Earlier this year, CAIR welcomed reports that the U.S. plans to withdraw all American troops from Syria and called for an orderly transition of the occupied areas to the liberated Syrian people.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
