CAIR Welcomes Switzerland Opening Criminal Probe of Israeli War Criminal

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a report that Switzerland has opened a criminal investigation into a suspected Israeli war criminal following a complaint from the Hind Rajab Foundation.

According to the foundation: “The complaint provides extensive evidence implicating the individual in war crimes and crimes against humanity, including attacks on civilians, destruction of homes and hospitals, forced displacement, and other grave violations of international law committed in the Gaza Strip.”

CAIR urged the U.S. government to follow suit in prosecuting Israeli soldiers and officials for war crimes.

Last month, CAIR welcomed an order by a Brazilian judge for police to investigate a former Israeli soldier vacationing in the country for war crimes. Similar investigations launched into possible Israeli war crimes by authorities in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia, Ireland, and Cyprus.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“We welcome this reported move by Swiss authorities to investigate a suspected war criminal on that nation’s soil. The international community must hold those who allegedly took part in the Gaza genocide accountable for their crimes against humanity.”

Last year, CAIR welcomed a detailed submission by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining evidence of Israel’s violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention in its war on Gaza.

Also last year, CAIR applauded the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
