Over 70 Civil Rights, Faith Groups Demand President Trump Abandon Gaza Expulsion Plans, Embrace Comprehensive Peace

Over 70 national, regional, state, and local civil rights organizations, civic groups, houses of worship, and faith-based advocacy organizations today sent a joint letter to President Donald Trump urging his administration to abandon plans to unilaterally control Gaza following the president’s repeated proposed expulsion of nearly two million Palestinians from their ancestral homeland.

The letter instead calls on President Trump to build on his earlier efforts that secured a historic ceasefire in Gaza rather than pursue a policy that would reignite conflict across the Middle East.

The letter outlines several urgent goals for a comprehensive peace agenda:

  • Upholding a Permanent Ceasefire: Protect civilian lives by halting all military operations and fostering an environment that prioritizes diplomatic, not militaristic, solutions.
  • Humanitarian Rebuilding of Gaza: Provide robust U.S. support for humanitarian aid, reinstate full funding to UNRWA, and ensure essential services continue uninterrupted.
  • International Redevelopment Fund: Collaborate with Palestinian leadership and international partners to lay the groundwork for a future Palestinian state under a unified government.
  • U.S. Recognition of a Palestinian State: Take a bold step by extending full U.S. recognition to a viable, independent Palestinian state.
  • Ending Occupation and Apartheid: Pressure Israel to end its occupation and discriminatory policies that have long undermined peace efforts in the region.

The letter stresses that a White House–backed policy of expelling Palestinians from Gaza would constitute genocide. Moreover, the occupation of Gaza by American soldiers would not only spark widespread backlash in the Arab and Muslim world but also entangle the United States in new, forever wars—consequences that no American taxpayer or soldier should bear.

The sign-on letter, sent to President Trump, represents the united voices of diverse organizations, including:
