The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned an Israeli attack in Lebanon that reportedly injured Malaysian UN peacekeepers.
Those UNIFIL peacekeepers, and several Lebanese Army personnel, were injured in a drone strike on a UN convoy near the town of Sidon in south Lebanon. Three people were reportedly killed in the drone attack. Israel has already killed more than 3,000 people in Lebanon.
Earlier this week, CAIR expressed its support for an effort by several countries to suspend the Israeli government from the United Nations General Assembly due its continuing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and attacks on UN staff, both in violation of the UN charter.
Malaysia and several other nations are working on a draft resolution which, if adopted, could potentially suspend Israel from the UN due to its genocide of Palestinians.
In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“This attack wounding United Nations peacekeepers and Lebanese Army personnel is yet another demonstration of the far-right Israeli government’s complete disregard both for international law and for the lives of Lebanese civilians. The Biden administration must take action to stop Israel’s ongoing war crimes.”
He noted that CAIR has previously supported efforts at the International Court of Justice to hold the Israeli government accountable for its genocide targeting the Palestinian people.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
