The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed International Criminal Court’s (ICC) rejection of Israel’s challenge to the legality of the court’s investigation into war crimes committed in Gaza.
In its judgment, the ICC confirmed an earlier ruling finding that there had been no “new situation” requiring the prosecutor to restart the process or issue a fresh notification to Israel, thereby allowing the investigation to proceed.
SEE: ICC rejects Israel appeal, backs Gaza war crimes investigation
[NOTE: Last year, CAIR’s national office applauded the International Criminal Court (ICC) decision to reject outside pressure and issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.]
In a statement, CAIR said:
“This ruling by the International Criminal Court affirms that no state is above the law and that war crimes must be fully and independently investigated. Accountability is essential for justice, for the victims and survivors, and for deterring future crimes against humanity.”
Washington, D.C., based CAIR reiterated its call on the United States and the international community to respect the independence of international legal institutions, end political interference with accountability mechanisms and uphold international humanitarian law.
Israel slaughtered more than 70,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children. The true figure is likely to be much higher.
