After two years not being allowed entry to the U.S., the 3-year-old son of a Muslim U.S. citizen will be allowed by immigration officials to join his family in Virginia.

A spokesman for the Council on American Islamic Relations says the boy and his father arrived at Reagan National Airport about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Abdeloihab Boujrad of Alexandria, and his wife, Leila, have been trying to get authorities to allow their son, Ahmedyassine to join them. The toddler has been living with an aunt in Morocco since 2005.

CAIR, an Islamic civil rights group suspected the delay was caused by a similarity in Ahmedyassine’s name to the founder of the Palestinian Islamic militant group Hamas, Sheik Ahmed Yassin, who was assassinated by Israel in 2004.
