(PHILADELPHIA, PA, 3/17/2014) — Some 600 people turned out on Saturday for the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia) annual banquet, themed “Faith and Freedom.”
At the banquet, CAIR-Philadelphia staff and community activists presented a multimedia program about the chapter's history and activities that was warmly received by the audience. The keynote address was offered by Imam Zaid Shakir. Comedian Azhar Usman offered the entertainment.
The event raised almost $180,000 to support CAIR-Philadelphia's civil rights and advocacy work.
CAIR-Philadelphia's banquet is one of the largest gatherings of American Muslims and people of all faiths in Pennsylvania.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
