(PHOENIX, AZ, 2/4/2022) – The Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Arizona) today called on state senators to oppose a bill passed by that state’s House of Representatives banning anti-racism teaching in schools.
The bill, which purports to ban “critical race theory” (CRT) and any instruction that “promotes or advocates any form of blame” on the basis of race, was passed by the House of Representatives on a party-line vote. It now goes to the Senate.

“Bans on anti-racism teaching put educators at risk for instructing students on the legacy of systemic anti-Black racism and white supremacy in our nation,” said CAIR-Arizona Executive Director Azza Abuseif. “We urge state senators to oppose this legislation.”
Abuseif noted that CAIR has previously condemned efforts to ban anti-racism teaching nationwide.
