The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called a senior Israeli officer’s reported use of an 80-year-old Palestinian man in Gaza as a “human shield” and the subsequent murder of that man and his wife is “further evidence of the uncounted war crimes” Israel has committed.
According to an Israeli media outlet:
“A senior officer in the Israeli army’s Nahal Brigade tied an explosive cord around the neck of an 80-year-old Palestinian man and forced him to serve as a human shield, ordering him to scout out abandoned houses under threat of having his head blown off. After he had served his purpose, the soldiers ordered the man to flee with his wife, but upon being spotted by another battalion they were both shot dead on the spot.”

In a statement, CAIR said:
“The revelation of this monstrous use of an 80-year-old man as a human shield and the subsequent murder of that man and his wife is further evidence of the uncounted war crimes committed in Gaza by the forces of the far-right government of indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu. Our nation’s complicity with Israel’s genocide must end.”
Earlier this month, CAIR called on the Trump administration to stop wasting taxpayer dollars on the Israeli government’s war crimes after the announcement of a new $7 billion arms sale to Israel.
The updated the death toll from Israel’s genocide in Gaza has topped 61,000 – mostly slaughtered women and children – with thousands added who are missing and presumed dead.
Last year, CAIR welcomed a detailed submission by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining evidence of Israel’s violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention in its war on Gaza.
Also last year, CAIR applauded the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
