The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

CAIR also reiterated its call for a hate crime law in South Carolina.
“We condemn this attempt to spread antisemitic hate and urge law enforcement authorities to apprehend the perpetrators and to bring appropriate charges,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “This and other recent incidents once again point to the urgent need for a hate crime law in South Carolina.”
Earlier this month, CAIR echoed a call by the NAACP for the adoption of a hate crime bill in South Carolina following the burning of a cross outside a Black couple’s home.
Hooper noted that earlier this week, CAIR welcomed the arrest of a man who allegedly assaulted two people outside a synagogue in Washington, D.C.
He added that CAIR similarly condemned distribution of hate materials in Mount Pleasant in September.
Hooper said Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
