(WASHINGTON D.C., 7/16/2021) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned two incidents of racist harassment targeting a Hispanic family and an Asian business in Utah.
In Weber County, the Hispanic family received an anonymous hate letter filled with racist comments and stereotypes, including “Go back to Mexico. That’s where you belong. Adios.”

“Hate incidents targeting minority communities must be repudiated by all those who stand against the growing racism, xenophobia and white supremacy we are witnessing in Utah and nationwide,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Yesterday, CAIR urged Utah officials to drop a hate crime enhancement for a teenage college student who allegedly stomped on a “Back the Blue” sign and “smirked” at a sheriff’s deputy in that state. CAIR also condemned racist “white lives matter” and neo-Nazi vandalism of a parking lot at a Utah high school.

Hooper said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
