(WASHINGTON D.C., 1/25/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a racist incident targeting a Black middle school student on a school bus in Utah Co., Utah and urged the local school district to offer an anti-racism curriculum.
A video posted on social media shows a group of boys gathering around a Black student on a school bus. One of the boys in the group is heard saying “Black guy! Black guy, look at this.” Some of the boys were touching the student, after which he asked them to stop. The Alpine School District says it is investigating the incident and is working with the Utah Co. Sheriff’s Office.

“No student should be subjected to harassment on the basis of their race,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison. “We urge the Alpine School District to offer anti-racist materials to students to ensure that they understand why incidents like this are unacceptable and to make it clear that racism won’t be tolerated on campus.”
He said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry.
