CAIR-Florida Seeks Probe of Public Defenders for Hate Posts on Facebook

public-defender-comments(MIAMI, FL 7/03/14) – The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida) today called on Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein and State Attorney Michael J Satz to launch an investigation into two Broward County assistant public defenders over hateful Facebook posts.

Gary Sheres and Bruce Raticoff, both Broward County public defenders, posted hateful comments toward Palestinians, calling them “filthy swine” and “cockroaches,” and appearing to advocate violence.

CAIR-Florida has notified authorities and asked for immediate action to be taken on Raticoff's apparent call for violence against Palestinians.

“We are extremely concerned that two public officials have such deep hatred for Palestinians and are appearing to advocate violence by asking people to 'Burn them to the ground,'” said Nezar Hamze, regional operations director of CAIR-Florida.

Hamze added: “We are taking this hatred and apparent call for violence very seriously, and we are seeking an immediate investigation by authorities into these individuals. This type of behavior is antithetical to the American way of life and individuals that spew such rabid hatred should not be working in any public position.”

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
