CAIR-MA Condemns Antisemitic Banner on Highway Overpass

(BOSTON, MA, 9/13/2022) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA) today condemned an antisemitic banner placed on a highway overpass in Saugus, Mass.

Law enforcement authorities say they received multiple complaints about the antisemitic banner that several men who had their faces covered were holding across Route 1.

“We condemn this attempt to promote antisemitic hate and join all others in our community who reject this and all other forms of bigotry,” said CAIR-MA Executive Director Tahirah Amatul-Wadud. “Religious, community and political leaders have a duty to repudiate hatred every time it is manifested in our society.”

She said that earlier this year, CAIR-MA condemned the distribution of racist flyers in Danvers, Ipswich, Hamilton and Chatham, Mass.

Amatul-Wadud said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
