(BOSTON, MA, 2/21/16) – On Monday, February 22, the Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA) will hold a news conference with interfaith partners and elected officials at the Rhode Island State House to show support for Governor Gina Raimondo’s welcoming response to Syrian refugees in that state.Â
While many governors are seeking to block Syrians refugees from coming to their states, Gov. Raimondo said she would welcome the refugees if President Obama asked her to.
WHAT: Interfaith Leaders, Elected Officials Show Support for Gov. Raimondo’s Welcome to Syrian Refugees
WHEN: Monday, February 22nd, 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: The Rhode Island State House, First Floor by the Liberty Bell

That news conference will follow an event to be held nearby by the Boston-based anti-Muslim hate group Americans for Peace and Tolerance, which is “dedicated to undermining mainstream Muslim institutions and promoting Islamophobia.â€
“As Syrian refugees seeking peace and freedom in our nation face opposition based on misinformation and Islamophobia, those public officials who back the long-standing American tradition of welcoming the oppressed need our support,†said CAIR-MA Executive Director Dr. John Robbins.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
