(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, 1/31/2023) – The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today condemned the attempted firebombing of a synagogue in Bloomfield, N.J.
Police are searching for the suspect who reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the Temple Ner Tamid early Sunday morning. The suspect, who is as of yet unidentified, was caught on surveillance video walking to the front entrance of the synagogue, lighting a Molotov cocktail, then throwing it. The building did not sustain damage.

In a statement, CAIR-NJ Executive Director Selaedin Maksut said:
“We condemn this deeply disturbing attack on a house of worship and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Bloomfield.”
“We urge law enforcement authorities to be swift and thorough in their investigation and ensure that houses of worship are protected from such attacks.”
He added that CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Jewish hatred, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
