(NEW YORK, N.Y., 11/18/15) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today applauded Mayor de Blasio’s statement on welcoming refugees.
CAIR-NY, along with partner organizations, sent a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio thanking him for his stance.
CAIR-NY Director of Operations Sadyia Khalique said in a statement:
“With some elected officials rejecting refugees, it is commendable that our mayor stands firm on American values. New York City is a historical center for immigration. The refugee crisis is a humanitarian issue not a religious issue.â€
Today, CAIR called on all Americans to contact their elected representatives to urge them to reject the growing trend of state governors and members of Congress expressing opposition to the entry of Syrian refugees.
CAIR-NY is a chapter of America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
