CAIR-OK Applauds DA’s Refiling of Hate Crime Charges Over Attack on Woman Perceived to Be Muslim

OK-hate-crime-Stuart-Manning(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK 04/28/2014) – The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) applauds the District Attorney's refiling of hate crime charges against Stuart D. Manning in regards to his verbal and physical attacks against a woman he thought to be Muslim in Tulsa last December.

“As a civil rights organization, we take all reports of hate crimes seriously, and welcome the fact that the District Attorney’s office is also doing so,” said CAIR-OK executive director, Adam Soltani. “We stand by the victim of these attacks and hope that justice will prevail against intolerant attitudes in our state.”

In January 2014, Stuart D. Manning was arrested on a complaint alleging that he committed a hate crime against a woman he assumed to be Muslim. According to reports, Manning is accused of hitting the woman in the forehead and sticking a knife in a tire on her vehicle while repeatedly calling her a “Muslim b—-,” his booking report says.

CAIR-OK is a chapter of America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
