(WASHINGTON D.C., 3/2/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today published a profile on Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) on its Islamophobia.org website.
Both prior to and during her time in Congress, Marjorie Taylor Greene has made repeated anti-Muslim, racist and antisemitic statements, and has targeted Muslim members of Congress such as Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
In February 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to censure and remove Greene from her committee assignments due to her many extreme, bigoted, and threatening statements.
Greene recently attended an event organized by a white nationalist at which attendees cheered Vladimir Putin and praised Adolf Hitler.
CAIR’s Islamophobia.org profile states in part:
“MTG’s Islamophobia well predates her time in Congress. MTG suggested that Muslims do not belong in the U.S. government and has indulged in and promoted widely debunked conspiracy theories.”
In a statement, CAIR Research and Advocacy Coordinator Huzaifa Shahbaz said:
“Marjorie Taylor Greene has consistently exhibited extreme anti-Muslim, racist and antisemitic views. Her actions and statements are completely beyond the pale of acceptability for a member of Congress who is tasked with fairly representing the interests of all constituents in her district.
“We urge Republican leaders – including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy – to strongly condemn her and ensure she is not reinstated to committee positions. Leader McCarthy should reverse his pledge to put her back on committees.”
Shahbaz noted that CAIR has repeatedly condemned Marjorie Taylor Greene’s anti-Muslim, racist, and antisemitic statements.
