CAIR Reiterates Condemnation of South Carolina’s ‘Confederate Memorial Day’

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/10/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy, today reiterated it condemnation of South Carolina’s celebration of “slavery, treason and white supremacy” by closing government offices for Confederate Memorial Day.

That state celebrates the Confederacy on May 10 because it was the day Confederate Gen. Thomas’ Stonewall’ Jackson died in 1863 and the day Union soldiers captured fleeing Confederate President Jefferson Davis in 1865.
