(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/21/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed support for a bill in Kentucky that would remove Confederate holidays from a list of public holidays.
Kentucky House Bill 211 would remove Robert E. Lee Day (Jan. 19) and Confederate Memorial Day and Jefferson Davis Day (both on June 3) from a list of public holidays in state statute. The bill is sponsored by Freshman Rep. Chad Aull (D-Lexington).

“No state should use public holidays to honor those who betrayed our nation and fought to maintain slavery and white supremacy,” said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw. “We support all efforts to end such unacceptable observances.”
He said Washington, D.C., based CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate names, holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.
