CAIR Welcomes Arrest for Distribution of Antisemitic Propaganda in South Carolina

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a man who allegedly distributed antisemitic propaganda in South Carolina driveways.

Jamin Fite, 48, faces seven charges of communicating obscene messages and seven charges of littering. He was arrested previously for distribution of hate materials. Authorities allege that he threw “vulgar, obscene and anti-Semitic material” into the yards of multiple homes without their knowledge or consent.

“We welcome the arrest of a suspect in this disturbing case and hope that others who would promote antisemitism and other hate-filled ideologies will see it as a form of deterrence,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Everyone has the right to free speech, but they do not have the right to intrude on the property of other people to spread their message of hate.”

He noted that last year, CAIR condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and reiterated its call for a hate crime law in that state. Also last year, CAIR condemned antisemitic flyers distributed to several South Carolina neighborhoods on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

Last week, CAIR welcomed a federal hate crime charge Eugene, Oregon, man who allegedly vandalized a local synagogue several times over a five-month period.

Hooper added that CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
