(BALTIMORE, MD, 3/13/22) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the planned removal on Monday of what is believed to be the last Confederate monument on public land in Maryland.
Last year, CAIR welcomed a vote by the Talbot County Council to remove the statue from the lawn of the Talbot County Courthouse in Easton, Md.

“We welcome the removal of this last remnant of the Confederate legacy of treason and white supremacy from public land in Maryland and urge every state to similarly remove symbols of systemic anti-Black racism,” said CAIR Office in Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry.
She noted that CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.
