(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, 11/11/15) – The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today welcomed an announcement by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office that it will issue new guidelines on police training to all 21 county prosecutors after the Muslim civil rights organization challenged a November 2 training program featuring notorious Islamophobe Walid Shoebat, who has called Islam “the devil.”
According to the Asbury Park Press, “During his presentation in Lakewood, Shoebat told officers that they should be actively monitoring Muslims in their communities.â€
Because of that and other islamophobic statements, the Attorney General’s Office will tell county prosecutors to make sure that police departments throughout New Jersey only take part in training programs that are “fully appropriate to their role in the community and to good law enforcement.â€
CAIR-NJ Executive Director James R. Sues welcomed the response from the Attorney General's Office.
“That is an excellent outcome, that is the kind of thing we were looking for, especially given that it was the lack of guidelines that resulted in the kind of training that happened last week,†said Sues.

Shoebat claims that President Obama is a Muslim. In a YouTube video, Shoebat said, “f Islam is not playing the major role in Antichrist spirit, why do you think the devil wants to appoint somebody connected to Islam in the White House?” He told radio host G. Gordon Liddy, “No one is called Hussein unless he is Muslim. So it is very clear that Barack Hussein Obama is definitely a Muslim.”
According to an official who attended a Shoebat lecture at a conference in Las Vegas, the solution he offered for the threat of “militant Muslims” was to “Kill them. . .including the children.”
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialog, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
