(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/12/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the removal of the last publicly owned Confederate monument from its display in Richmond, Va.
Crews in Richmond removed a statue of Confederate general A.P. Hill on Monday. The statue was the last publicly owned Confederate monument in the city. The statue will be placed in the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia.

“Memorials to individuals who betrayed our nation in order to preserve slavery do not belong on public property,” said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw. “We welcome the removal of this monument to hate.”
He noted that CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate holidays, flags, statues, and symbols.
