CAIR Welcomes South Carolina County’s New Hate Crime Ordinance

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a new hate crime ordinance by Richland County in South Carolina, the first such measure passed by a county in that state.

“We welcome this new ordinance and hope it sends a message to bigots of all types that bias-motivated actions will not be tolerated or excused,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

He noted that Last month, CAIR urged lawmakers in South Carolina to pass a hate crime bill

Washington, D.C., based CAIR has previously expressed support for the passage of the hate crime bill in South Carolina.
