CAIR-Kentucky Urges State Senate to Drop Bill Restricting Anti-Racism Teaching

(WASHINGTON D.C., 2/7/2022) – The Kentucky chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Kentucky) today urged the state senate to drop a bill that would restrict anti-racism teaching.

Senate Bill 138, introduced by Republican Sen. Max Wise, would prohibit schools from requiring educators to talk about current events or participate in race-related training. While the bill does mandate teaching on historical racism, it promotes the narrative that there are no racial barriers to success in modern America.

“Legislation barring teachers from instructing youth on the reality of systemic racism and white supremacy harms our nation and diminishes respect for teaching the truth,” said CAIR-Kentucky Board Member Waheedah Muhammad. “We call on state senators to reject Senate Bill 138.”

Muhammad noted that CAIR has condemned previous legislative efforts to ban anti-racism teaching in Kentucky.
