(WASHINGTON D.C., 5/24/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today urged a school district in Utah to offer anti-racist curriculum after an assistant principal at a junior high school allegedly called a student a racial slur.
Yesterday, a demonstration was held outside Bennion Junior High School, where an assistant principal allegedly called a student a racial slur. The Granite School District issued a statement saying the assistant principal will remain on leave until the investigation is complete.

“We urge the school district to offer an anti-racist curriculum to all staff and students to help prevent similar incidents in the future,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “It is essential that the district demonstrate that racism and other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated at any of its schools.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
