WHAT: Texas Muslims to Condemn ISIS
WHERE: 2904 Floyd St., Dallas Texas 75204 — Room “Floyd 1”
WHEN: Monday September 22, 11 a.m.
CONTACT: CAIR-DFW Executive Director Alia Salem, 817-538-8269, firstname.lastname@example.org
CAIR-DFW Executive Director, Alia Salem said in a statement:
“With the continued news of the horrific barbarism of ISIS and its allies, it is incumbent upon the Muslim leaders in our area to go on the record publicly to condemn and discredit these groups as enemies of Muslims, Islam and peace loving human beings everywhere. While ISIS has never and will never speak for Islam or Muslims, there is still a lot of fear and misunderstanding where Muslims stand on this issue. The purpose of this press conference will seek to remove any doubt so we may continue to build bridges in our community that works for a safe and peaceful tomorrow for all of our residents.”
Azhar Azeez, a DFW resident and the newly elected President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) said in a statement: “We will continue to reiterate that the actions of groups such as ISIS/ISIL have no basis in the teachings of Islam. Terrorism in ALL its forms is un-Islamic.” ISNA is the nation's largest Muslim organization dedicated to fostering the development of the Muslim community, interfaith relations, civic engagement, and better understanding of Islam.
Also in mid-October, CAIR-DFW plans to host an academic forum that will bring religious, academic and political scholars together for a public discussion on the issue of ISIS and what it means for Americans, Muslims and the world.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
