(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/17/15) – An official with the Manassas Muslim Association in Manassas, Va., reported to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, that the mosque's air conditioning unit was vandalized again tonight – the second such vandalism this week.
On Tuesday, CAIR called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for the first act of vandalism.
CAIR is urging mosques and Muslim community leaders nationwide to step up security for Friday's end-of Ramadan Eid ul-Fitr (EED-al-FITTER) (“feast of fast breaking”) holiday prayers by requesting a local law enforcement presence in the vicinity of any public prayers or holiday gatherings.
Community leaders are also being asked to obtain and implement safety measures outlined in its booklet, “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety.” The booklet may be requested through CAIR's website: http://www.cair.com/mosque-safety-guide.html   Â
CAIR asks Muslim community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR's Civil Rights Department at 202-742-6420 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
