MEDIA ADVISORY- CAIR to Join Coalition Seeking Baltimore Police Reform, Improved Community Relations

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/22/15) – On Thursday, July 23, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will partner with a broad-based coalition at a press conference in Annapolis, Md., at which participants will propose concrete measures for police reform and improved community relations.

Thursday's coalition press conference, scheduled to be held immediately before the convening of a legislative workgroup that will take public testimony from activists and victims of police misconduct, will provide specific measures to enact police reform and improve community relations. 

The legislative workgroup was appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan's administration in the aftermath of Freddie Gray's death. Gray died in Baltimore City earlier this year due to injuries sustained while in police custody.

Similar calls for police reform are being heard in other states.
