(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/8/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for an independent investigation of alleged racist taunts by fans at an Iowa high school softball game.
Those taunts reportedly occurred during a softball game between Charles City and Waterloo East on Thursday.

“The allegation of racist taunts should be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Student athletes must be able to compete free of racist intimidation or harassment.”
Hooper added that yesterday, CAIR condemned a planned white nationalist music festival in Boise, Idaho.
He noted that CAIR recently condemned the distribution of racist flyers to neighborhoods in Connecticut and racist hate campaigns in Minnesota and Alabama. CAIR’s Massachusetts chapter condemned a march in Boston, Mass., by members of the white supremacist group Patriot Front.
CAIR’s Oregon chapter recently welcomed the arrest of a suspect for an allegedly anti-Asian attack in Portland, Ore., and called for hate crime enhancements for an alleged anti-Asian incident in Wisconsin.
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Asian hate, antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
