(WASHINGTON D.C., 1/21/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today offered support for an upcoming vote by the Town of Vienna, Va., to change a street that honors a Confederate general who raised funds for the racist KKK.
On Monday, there will be a public hearing on renaming Wade Hampton Drive, which was named in reference to Wade Hampton III, a Confederate general who worked against the Reconstruction and raised funds for the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).
