CAIR Condemns White Supremacist Event in South Carolina, Distribution of KKK Propaganda in Ohio

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today by condemned a march on the South Carolina Statehouse by the white supremacist group Patriot Front and the distribution of racist Ku Klux Klan (KKK) propaganda in Ohio.

“The racist and white supremacist groups promoting their hate-filled messages nationwide must feel pushback by the majority of Americans who reject bigotry,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge state and national leaders to speak out strongly against the campaign of hate targeting minority and immigrant communities.”

He noted that CAIR has repeatedly spoken out against the distribution of KKK propaganda and condemned Patriot Front activities wherever they occur nationwide, including Utah, Alambama, Mississippi, and a number of other states.

Last month, CAIR similarly condemned a march by the Patriot Front in Des Moines, Iowa. CAIR’s Massachusetts chapter also condemned a rally by members of the Patriot Front in Boston near the Massachusetts State House.

Last week, CAIR expressed support for a hate crime ordinance currently poised to be passed by the city of Gaffney, South Carolina.

Hooper said CAIR has previously expressed its support for a hate crime bill to again be introduced in the South Carolian legislature.
